Pairing Recipe: Filet Mignon with Rich Balsamic Glaze

Pair our 2018 GEN 7 Road To Rio Reserve with this Filet Mignon with Rich Balsamic Glaze from Our Road to Rio red blend is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Exploding with incredible plum flavors lends this Sonoma and Alexander Valley Merlot blend as an elegant wine for all occasions. Aromas and flavors of plum, black currants, and red cherry with a subtle hint of holiday spice, chocolate, and white pepper. Visually stunning of dark crimson as the rich mouthfeel, incredible legs, fantastic balance, and dreamy long finish entices you to sip and savor every drop.

This recipe serves 2.


2 (4 ounce) filet mignon steaks
½ teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
salt to taste 
¼ cup balsamic vinegar
¼ cup dry red wine


1. Sprinkle both sides of steaks with pepper and salt.

2. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steaks in the hot pan until browned, about 1 minute per side.

3. Reduce heat to medium-low, and pour in balsamic vinegar and red wine. Cover and cook for 4 minutes. Flip steaks and baste with sauce; cover and cook for 4 minutes longer.

4. Remove steaks to two warmed plates. Spoon a tablespoon of glaze over each steak and serve immediately.

Note: Some reviewers said they preferred to serve the sauce on the side which is also a great option.
