The Anderson Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) is centered on the Anderson Valley in Mendocino County,
California. It is known primarily for its Pinot Noir and sparkling wine production. Lying 10 to 15 miles (16 to 24 km) from the Pacific Ocean, the AVA is prone to a wide diurnal temperature variation of between 40 to 50°F (22 to 28°C). The valley frequently has long Indian summers. Cutting laterally through the coastal range rather than lying between ridges, the west, or “deep end” of the Anderson Valley is only a few miles from the cold Pacific Ocean.
